FAQs
Why the need to create such an alliance?
The rationale for COMplus is based on the need to build a broad and action oriented communications platform that will facilitate outreach and interaction with global audiences. It supports and enhances the work of other initiatives whenever possible.
The alliance offers strategic opportunities to:
- Allow different types of organisations to work together, provide complementary expertise and resources that no one organisation could provide alone
- Enhance the role of communications and its impact on the advancement of sustainable development
- Provide enhanced credibility to joint communication efforts
COMplus can create a multiplier effect for communications initiatives as it can tap into the networks and resources of its members and other stakeholders.
Can communications contribute to making a difference?
Making a real difference in communications for sustainable development is not about single messaging, but about the need to generate a common and inclusive communications platform to elevate key issues and bring them to global audiences. COMplus provides such a platform.
The alliance is action oriented. It makes use of knowledge and information sharing features as a means to generate innovative communications initiatives that can make a real difference in outreach and impact.
Who can benefit from this initiative?
Based on lessons learned and best practices in communications for sustainable development, COMplus aims to broaden the outreach and impact of communications in global public opinion through innovative tools and mechanisms.
Against this background, COMplus aims to reach journalists, academia, professional communicators and opinion leaders. These groups, in turn, effectively spread key messages to the general public.
Why the name COMplus?
The name COMplus is the result of a brainstorming session at the partners' first meeting in Rome on 25 September 2003. It was chosen because it appropriately conveys the positive multiplier effect notion for which the alliance stands. After final consultation, the name was adopted at the subsequent meeting held in Geneva on 12 December 2003.
