Background
In 2002, the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg urged the international community to reinvigorate the pursuit of global sustainability. It reiterated commitment to targets outlined in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and generated consensus on an integrated three-way approach to sustainable development (social, economic and environmental).
An important outcome of the WSSD was that of supporting multi-stakeholder partnerships that complement the inter-governmental system and help drive the action needed on the ground.
In response, the COMplus operational platform started in 2003 as an all-encompassing network of existing networks with the vision of providing a unique multi stakeholder communications platform for different messengers on sustainable development.
Over the last seven years, since the inception of COMplus, the organisation has shown remarkable success through the implementation of a synergistic approach among three business lines; building multi stakeholder platforms of dialogue, capacity building and knowledge sharing and high impact multimedia products.
Toward a more sustainable future – The COMplus Spirit
Communications professionals and media outlets are key to advancing an enlightened global debate on sustainable development. They can be a unique force in bringing environmental, social and economic issues closer to the public, raising both awareness and concern
As the environment continues to deteriorate alongside the persistence of intolerable human conditions the need to communicate action at global, national and individual levels has never been greater.
This is the COMplus spirit.
