Effective partnerships have an integral role to play in communicating the sustainable development message. It has become clear that governments cannot resolve sustainability challenges on their own and communications are vital in lessening the burden.
We now operate in a world in which government, business and civil society are moving from dialogue to active engagement and partnerships.
British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)
The BBC exists to enrich people’s lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain. It has a bold and forthright vision - to be the most creative, trusted broadcast organisation in the world. Free of commercial interests and political bias, the corporation produces quality television and radio both locally and nationally including children’s, educational, language and other services for key interest groups.
Center for Applied Biodiversity Science/Conservation International (CI)
The Center for Applied Biodiversity Science (CABS) is the scientific hub of Conservation International (CI). CI believes that the Earth's natural heritage must be maintained if future generations are to thrive spiritually, culturally and economically. Its mission is to conserve the Earth's living natural heritage, our global biodiversity, and to demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously alongside nature.
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)
The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) is a strategic alliance of nations, regional organisations and private foundations dedicated to mobilising agricultural science for the benefit of poor farmers.
Global Environment Facility (GEF)
The Global Environment Facility (GEF), established in 1991, helps developing countries fund projects and programmes that protect the global environment. GEF grants support projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants.

GlobeScan has been providing reliable public opinion and stakeholder research and counsel to clients for over 16 years. First established in 1987 as a Canadian public opinion research practice, it has evolved to encompass the study of emerging global issues while advising clients of the implications for corporate strategy and public opinion policy.
Inter Press Service (IPS)
The editorial mission of IPS is to promote peace, human rights, development and democracy. It produces independent, high-quality information that supports the growth of free and diverse media and helps to safeguard freedom of expression. The approach of IPS journalism is to give prominence to the voices of the marginalised and the vulnerable, to reflect the views of civil society and to mainstream gender in all reporting.
The International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ)
The mission of IFEJ is to improve public understanding of environmental and sustainable development issues worldwide by supporting journalists internationally through networking, training and the promotion of free access to information.
IUCN - The World Conservation Union (IUCN)
Created in 1948, IUCN - The World Conservation Union - brings together 72 states, 107 government agencies, 750 NGOs and more than 10,000 scientists and experts from 181 countries in a unique worldwide partnership. IUCN’s mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and ensure any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.
One Planet Pictures
One Planet Pictures was set up in 2005 by Robert Lamb, since then it has produced over 25 hours of television reaching 800 million television homes worldwide.
Most One Planet Pictures programmes are made in partnership with dev.tv in Geneva and are broadcast first On BBC World News, the world's most watched global news and current affairs TV network.
With its dev.tv partner, One Planet Pictures has promoted the documentary output as part of a package designed to enhance the public impact of programming via TV debates, news features, You Tube postings, language versioning and so forth.
Reuters Foundation
Created in 1982 to support journalists from developing countries, the Foundation today embraces a wide range of educational, humanitarian and environmental causes and projects.
Television Trust for the Environment (TVE)
The Television Trust for the Environment was founded as an independent non-profit project in 1984 by UNEP and Central Television. Earth Report is a weekly half hour programme on environment and development issues airing first on BBC World and BBC News 24 direct to 267 million homes.
Television for Education Asia Pacific (TVEAP)
Established in 1996,Television for Education – Asia Pacific (TVEAP) is a regionally operated media foundation using television, video and the internet to communicate sustainable development and humanitarian issues. It produces and distributes editorially independent content focusing on individuals and communities pursuing better lives in the world’s largest and most populous region.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
UNEP's mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations to improve quality of life without compromising future generations.
The World Bank
With 184 member countries, almost every country in the world is a member of the World Bank Group, either as a shareholder or a borrower. Based in Washington, D.C, the Bank maintains a network of more than 100 offices in over 75 countries. The World Bank assists poor and middle-income countries in the design and implementation of projects and programmes. It analyses economic, financial, institutional, social, and environmental issues at national, regional, and global levels.
World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
The WBCSD is a coalition of some 200 international companies united by a shared commitment to sustainable development through economic growth, ecological balance and social progress. The WBCSD's activities reflect its belief that the pursuit of sustainable development is good for business and business is good for sustainable development.
Associate Partners
New associate members of COMplus include: GREEN Consultancy, a communications agency specialising in sustainable development and based in the UK and NHK Eco Channel - NHK's brand new portal website, dedicated to climate change and sustainable development. NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation is Japan's sole public broadcaster.
GLOBE – COMplus continues to work in close collaboration with GLOBE (the Global Legislators Organisation. A successful joint programme during 2009-2010 with (GLOBE) was directed to legislators, business community, and civil society organisations. This COMplus strategic partnership with GLOBE shadowed the G8 and G20 Summit process through the Japanese G8 Summit in 2008, regional summits and COP 15 in Copenhagen in 2009. Work is ongoing in 2010. Legislators’ dialogues on climate change and illegal logging are part of the process, and COMplus is bringing a vast group of journalists and civil society representatives to these major events and coordinating outreach activities.
